Camera: Nikon D40X
I've
made the jump from digital SLR-like camera to real digital SLR camera:
the Nikon D40X. A coworker told me that a Nikon is the Mercedes-Benz
of cameras and a Canon is the Toyota. Does that make Olympus the
Chevrolet of cameras? My old Olympus C-3000 has certainly been more
reliable than a Chevy..
I
bought the D40X on Amazon. Once upon a time I paid a lot of money
for overnight shipping. My once-upon-a-time item took three days.
This time I refused to pay for shipping. I was expecting to receive
my camera in ten days. I got it in three days. Moral of the story:
never pay for overnight shipping.
Photography
Terminology 101: SLR stands for Single Lens Reflex which refers
to the means by which the photographer views the subject through
the viewfinder. In an SLR camera—film or digital—the
image in the viewfinder is seen through the lens "TTL".
In the days of film a "35 mm SLR" was the tool of professional
photojournalists and sports photographers.

Walk Across the Golden Gate Bridge Sunday,
July 1, 2007
Being
a sunny sunday it was super swamped with tourists but Mary and I
survived even though Mary contemplated suicide for a short second.
(Is that enough bad alliteration for you?)
Length
roundtrip from near the parking area to the Marin side viewing area
is just under 4 miles.

Non-Nuclear Proliferation BBQ
Wednesday,
July 4, 2007
Perhaps
inspired by the Star Spangled Banner lyrics: "bombs
bursting in air..." Chris and Chad decided to celebrate another,
darker anniversary that coincides with the anniversary of the day
we won our independence from the British crown: the 1-year mark
of North Korea testing "nukular" weapons.
